Not much congrats are in order but I am happy you posted that. The reason no congrats are in order is because my issue was well documented, I just chose to fly by the seat of my pants and then later post dumb questions about why it was not working properly. I spent countless hours reverse engineering, actually it should be called perverse engineering the citadel server when the solution was already explained. So a heartfelt duh to me.

It's interesting, you seem to have ANSI color here, where disboardia doesn't have that. Maybe a different version of citadel?

/citadel.rc
Lines 32 through 36:
# ANSI_COLOR should be set to on/off/auto/user to control the use of

# color on the screen. If it is set to "auto" then an autodetect will be

# attempted. If it is set to "user" then it's a user-configurable option.

ansi_color=auto

So, to answer your question, this started out the same citadel 931 that spins

up and installs from citadel.org. However, I have made a bunch of changes to it under the hood. ANSI color negotiation was not a change, I just set the variable in /citadel.rc to auto instead of the default of "user".
I have done a poor job in documenting or even remembering what other changes I have made to the system. Basically, I edited things by the seat of my pants. If something blows up, I will have to start over.

Hmm, I think I have mine set to auto as well, I'll double check. I use a screen reader for the blind, so didn't notice.

Ah, I had a typo in citadel.rc. You should have ANSI on Disboardia now.
disboardia.net for those who don't know.

apparently when I connected just a few moments agom, ansi was negotiated abd and worked just fine on disboardia. I type poorly but mean well. I am thinking there should be an easy to find citadel repository on github. Cant say I found one, I have code suggestions... maybe time to do it

The color looks good on Disboardia now. I meant to commment on it when I was over there but forgot.
Agreed, maybe time to get citadel up on github. I haven't figured git out beyond git clone yet, but certainly a good time to learn. My C is a little rusty too. Dammit Jim, I'm a hacker not a developer. But first I need to get myself setup with a citadel I can mess with. Maybe this weekend.

ASCII, I wish you could see what Smashbot has done with the visuals of Citadel. It is far more attractive than the default webcit configuration. It is too bad that Citadel didn't have an easier way to implement themes to make this easier for people who don't understand XML stylesheets. I really like the colors and the icons - and think that this could go a long way to making Citadel more accessible to "average" users. It looks slicker and more polished - and the buttons stand out more. Way better color scheme than the default. We've got to get Ig over here to see this if he hasn't already.

Not yet. I've been distracted with a lot of dayjob nonsense for the last couple of days and over the weekend. Maybe later this week.

Oh dear.

He is prob trying to run WordPress or Drupal via an easy install script on what disboardia.net resolves to... and the nginx install seized port 80 ( and most probably 443)

This is EXACTLY why I have citadel.smashbot.com pointing to port 2000 because citadel will live nice and shuthefuckuply there within confines. I chose to let apache2 direct incoming traffic to vhosts because I know apache2 is hell bent on being the only star in my sky, a yang to my yin, and something that floods the apt database with the kitchen sink.

That looks like an nginx response. He just has to fix his handling of virtual hosts.

Subject: Needed to add a car to my insurance

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I thought this would be simple. How wrong I was.

I called the number on my bill that sells insurance.

I wanted to add a vehicle to my policy. I spent about 90 minutes listening to a music on hold loop telling me that my call was very important to them. I did not care about the importance of my call.

My question is, when was the kickoff meeting for telephone calls being important? I am young and old enough to remember what it was like to just have an attempted phone call ring out, with neither party able to disseminate 1% of their intended message.

I truly believe that my issue is not having to anything from within the attempted phone call, but from tripping over the word "important". We pass this word around daily, and  then there is

important

[ im-pawr-tnt ]
See synonyms for: important / importantly on Thesaurus.com

adjective

Not a damn thing of what I wanted to talk about had a remote sentiment to anything in the above dictionary entry... yet we are led to believe that we have a common reference on what is "important".

Even Fred Rogers (Mister Rogers Neighborhood) did a whole bit on the word "important".
